Laser Hair Removal

We offer permanent hair reduction using the Gemini II 1064 YAG laser, which is an effective medical grade Laser used only by physicians, nurse practitioners and a few other practitioners that are allowed by law. Who performs the laser treatments?

Your laser treatments will be performed personally by Dr. DeCosimo, who has extensive experience with laser hair removal.

How does it work?

The Gemini II laser emits light at a specific wave-length that selectively destroys the hair follicle. A cooling tip on the laser protects the skin from injury. No creams or any other substances need to be applied to the skin before treatment, as with some other hair removal methods.

Treatments are given four to six weeks apart, in order to destroy hairs that were in the resting stage during previous treatments. Patients generally require between 3 and 6 treatments, after which 85% - 95% of the hair will not re-grow. Any re-growth that occurs is typically finer and lighter. All skin types can be treated effectively by the Gemini II laser. Blond or gray hair does not respond well to these laser treatments. We can now treat all skin colors, even tanned skin; however, best results are accomplished on skin that has been protected from the sun for at least 4 weeks before treatment.

How long does the procedure take?

The length of the procedure depends on the size of the area to be treated. The upper lip takes only a few minutes, while the underarms take 15 to 20 minutes and the bikini line takes 30 minutes or more. Legs and thighs obviously take significantly more time, therefore several sessions will be needed for upper and lower leg treatment.

Does it hurt?

Some areas of the body tend to be more sensitive than others, and you may experience some brief discomfort. While anesthesia is not required, we sometimes recommend applying a topical anesthetic about one hour before the procedure to minimize any discomfort. We can prescribe this cream in advance of your appointment so you can apply it 45 minutes before your treatment.

Which patients should not undergo laser hair removal?

Patients with recently tanned skin and patients using medications which require limited exposure to sunlight (i.e. Tetracycline, Retin A) must follow specific pre treatment instructions.

Is it safe?

Yes. The cooling tip on the laser is patented and protects the skin from injury and is safe to use on any area of the body. Goggles are worn during treatment to protect the eyes.

Scarring of the skin was not observed in large clinical studies however scarring may occur rarely after any skin treatment. Occasionally, patients experience skin pigmentation changes in the treated area. These changes are temporary.

Treatment of Leg Veins

Varicose veins and capillaries are small, twisted blood vessels occurring in the legs just below the surface of the skin. They generally result from slow blood flow through the lower legs and can become unsightly.

How does it work?

The Gemini II 1064 YAG laser is directed into the veins that causes them to disappear. There is minimal discomfort and no sedation or local anesthetic is required.

How long does it take?

Laser treatments are quick and easy, and can even be done during your lunch hour. You will be able to resume all of your daily activities immediately after your treatment.

How much will it cost?

Treatments are based on the areas that are treated per session. As new broken veins occur, ongoing treatments may be required to maintain the improvements achieved.

Laser Skin Rejuvenation

How does it work?

The laser rejuvenation treatments target the pigmented lesions on the skin such as the brown spots, blood vessels, and damage caused by years of sun exposure as well as fine lines and other signs of aging. The face neck, hands, and chest are the most frequently treated areas, but other areas such as arms,and legs can be treated as well. Laser treatments require no patient downtime.

How long does the procedure take?

Depending on the area targeted, a treatment can take as little as 15 minutes for hand rejuvenation or spot treatments or as long as 45 minutes for the face and neck.

Microdermabrasion

What is it?

Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical, exfoliating treatment helpful for those patients that are unhappy with acne scarring, sun-damaged skin, age spots, freckles, stretch marks, fine lines, scars, large pores, clogged pores and blackheads and rough skin. Treatments can be be performed on the face, neck, hands, back, elbows and feet.

What is treatment like?

Microdermabrasion is an exfoliation technique for removing the topmost layer of skin leaving it supple and vibrant.
